Several years ago, I handled for a musher in the Iditarod, Stan Zoray. For me, being in Anchorage surrounded by dogs and mushers was a little like going to the red carpet for the Academy Awards. So many famous mushers! Everywhere I turned, OMG - there's Dee Dee Jonrowe! There's Charlie Boulding! I even managed to get a picture of me standing beside my favourite author and musher, Dave Olsen. (except at the exact moment the photographer snapped the picture, Dave's dogs needed his attention, and he bent down to them. So I proudly show my photo of me and Dave Olsen's butt)
Fellow blogger

The Iditarod must be incredible! So much excitement - and enough chaos thrown in to make your heart pound! :)
Glad you got to experience the event in the past!
It sounds exciting. :)
So cool! you already know my Anchorage tourist T-shirt story about the iditarod :)
(Did you have a root beer float at Betty's, "Home of the Iditarod"? I'm not even sure it's still around, this was years ago)
Sounds exciting. It's an amazing competition!
Wow! That sounds so cool. And I guess that's another reason you can really write about dogsledding. You know so much abut it.
How exciting! I'm sorry your picture with Dave Olsen didn't turn out so great, though. :)
I can't even imagine being at the Iditarod. But the copy of Dogsled Dreams that I ordered just arrived yesterday. I'm looking forward to reading it :)
Thanks for posting this Terry. It truly was an amazing opportunity. These are world class athletes--both human and dog--and get to meet them up close and personal at the start of the race was incredible indeed!
Wow, sounds so amazing.
