Northern living

It was Family Day yesterday - a new holiday. And what better way to spend it than going to the city to skate on the lake?

One little detail - it was minus thirty-two with the windchill.

cold noses, warm hearts
So you would think that we'd be the only crazy family out there - but no. This is northern Ontario! There were many people out - playing hockey or just getting blown around. The skate up the lake was challenging, but the ride coming back down with the wind at your back was FUN!

And more fun: I'll be heading to CANNINGTON, Ontario this weekend for another sled dog race and book signing of DOGSLED DREAMS. I'm also doing a talk/reading at the Brock Library on Friday, Feb. 25.

THIS time, I hope to have photos/video to share when I get back.

Don't forget to enter my Mega Elevensies Book Giveaway in the post below!

I was born up north (Geraldton) and lived in Jellicoe for the first five years of my life but I will NEVER get used to that special kind of northern cold. I enjoy seeing pictures of it though!
Have fun at your next signing!

We didn't have it quite that cold yesterday - actually it was kinda nice. Sounds like you had fun anyway! :)

I'm freezing just looking at these pictures. I so hate the cold. I mean, really hate the cold. Have a super day.

It sounds like a lot of fun, but you wouldn't catch me out there in that cold. :-)

That's cold, even by Canadian standards! Hope your upcoming appearances go well.

Family Day -- what a great holiday! I love how clear and bright the pictures look, but am glad to be enjoying the effect indoors. :)

Sounds like you are having such a good time. Here the nights are in the 40's but the days are in the seventies/eighties. Winter is over for us! Good luck at the book signing. Hope you sell bunches and bunches.
