Bite marks on our bouy marker. Size comparison with our dog's toy. |
We attached a new bouy this summer marking a log sticking out of the water on our lake. Once the lake froze, the bouy sat on top of the ice. It apparently looked like a new toy. The wolves ripped it off its rope, and played soccer with it across the lake.
We retrieved it this morning on our walk. The number of wolf tracks surrounding it looked like dozens of wolves had played the game , but we've only seen three - a spectacularly large and lush wolf with two smaller ones.

Now I want to tie more balls to the dock to watch the wolves come and play with them. I wonder if they like squeaky toys.
Happy New Year to everyone!

I bet they do like squeaky toys and will work hard to remove the squeak!
we need a webcam!
I love thinking about them playing.
Yes, you need to put out a motion-sensor camera or something and catch them in the act!
That sounds like fun! I hope you can snap some photos one time! :)
Oh, oh, a camera - you could live stream wolf soccer from your blog - totally awesome!
Just looking at your photos makes me cold. I need to move to Florida. Have a great 2012!
Happy New Year! So excited for you and all that's coming this year. xo
You live in a beautiful, wild place. So far, we're having a very brown winter down in Detroit. Happy New Year!
If you had a wolf webcam, I would totally watch it, especially if they're playing with squeaky toys!
Wow! Yes, like Diane said : you do need a motion-activated camera! Love your site, Roland
Wow, wolves? And here I thought I was experiencing wild life finding and identifying possum poop in my yard!
I could've sworn I was following your blog, but I guess not. Oh well, I've fixed it now.
Happy New Year!
