Finally getting serious about my revisions. Sit down at the computer, even though there aren't any blackflies out yet so it's a brilliant time to be hiking.
But how am I supposed to get anything done when this is going on?
I took this photo from my chair. Mr. Blue Heron is hunting in the creek that runs into our lake. He stalks, he remains completely motionless, he STABS into the shallows. Then he tosses his prey in the air, little legs flying, and catches it and swallows down the big honking frog.
He's caught three so far. Not that I'm watching. I'm working here...

This is why my computer faces a paneled wall. If I had any window at all, never mind such a lovely scene, I'd be too distracted.
What a great view you must have. Lots of things to inspire you! Enjoy it!
Better to have to deal with such lovely distractions than live in a world of concrete. I would totally be watching the heron hunt, too.
Now that's a pretty cool distraction! And a perfect example of how real life is what makes us writers in the first place :)
Hey - get back to work!
I love the new blog design - those snow-covered trees are beautiful. And I just read your list of books read - I'm reading Hush Hush right now and having a hard time putting it down.
How funny! Sounds like here. I never know what's going to happen outside my windows.
Wow! If I looked out that window I'd never get anything done (And my cat would go wild). I have herds of white tail deer out my window and an occasional fox. The deer are pests, but the fox is cool.
I'd be watching too!
If I had the view you have from your desk, I'd never get anything done...even without that gorgeous heron present!!
I love watching large birds. They're so cool. And I like the new look on your blog!
Very cool! Good luck with the revisions--they'll be great--I know it!
I love the photos on the top. Beautiful!!
My dad is an avid birder, so he has gotten me into it a bit. We have herons here and I love to see them fly across the sky with their legs behind them!
Two choices as I see it my friend,
1) Buy a black spray paint and go over the whole window with it...I'd try and avoid curtains if I were you.
2) Go with the flow and enjoy. Your book is SURE to be a hit! We KNOW it!
I'm so envious of your awesome view! Although I do sort of feel sorry for the frogs... but such is nature, right? Great photo, too!
We've had yucky weather here in Seoul so it hasn't been too hard to sit down but it's just hard to do revisions. I'm 20 pages from finishing my 2nd draft. How about you?
Oh and I love your header on your blog!
always great to get inspiration from nature.
reminds me of watching this spider spin a web above my desk
So awesome that you have that kind of view. I'm just looking at a bare wall. Yeah it's probably distracting, but when you need to describe setting or animals you've got the real thing in front of you to study.
Wow, that would be cool, but I doubt I'd get anything done. :)
Good luck on the revisions. Distractions do happen. I love the heron. We have one in our area and I love it when he shows himself.
I love birds... my own pet Canary loves to watch me type... my pet budgie thinks another bird lives in the computer lol... I'm fortunate enough that my window is up a bit higher so I would have to stand and look out the window...nature is just remarkable though
